I hope you guys had the chance to check out my last post where I shared a couple of skincare remedies using coconut oil. Today, I am going to be discussing the beneficial properties for haircare of this amazing natural resource.
Coconut oil has been used for centuries to nourish and moisturize hair of all kinds. An article by Dr. Axe says that “ Lush, shiny, manageable and healthy hair can be yours, with coconut oil!”, and speaking from personal experience - this is quite true!
Coconut oil is rich in vitamins, minerals and other nurtrients that work together to keep your hair nourished inside and shiny on the outside. Anti-microbial properties and the presence of lauric acid means that coconut oil has the ability to strengthen your hair and promotes regrowth. Medium chain fatty acids are not only healthy in your diet, but also condition the scalp when applied directly to it! Researchers suggest that a healthy diet, combined with drinking lots of water and massaging coconut oil in your hair can prevent dryness, frizziness and brittle hair.
Dr. Axe also suggests that coconut oil can be used to reduce and treat dandruff. The unsightly yeast-like fungal infection can be easily combatted with coconut oil due to the fact that it has antiviral, anti fungal and capric acid in it.
Another article on Organic Facts, brings to light the benefits of coconut oil for hair loss. This article suggests that coconut oil can be used to treat and prevent premature aging, baldness and excessive hair loss effectively. Nutrients in coconut oil also add protein compounds to your hair as well as luster.
So say bye-bye to your haircare problems and commercial conditioners, and say ‘hello’ to this life-saver (or should I say “hair saver”?)!
In my next post I will be sharing with you how I incorporate coconut oil in my haircare regime.
P.S - What other natural products do you use to protect your hair?
